a little update

6 May

Girls are okay, sore but good.  It’s been really really wonderful having my mom here.  The week was packed with different appointments, lessons, a social worker post adoption interview etc. including a manicure pedicure gift for my amazing mom last night!  It was crazy getting out of the house, I hopped in the van to drive us and my mom said, “OH, it’s kind of chilly!”  I was sweating!  “Mom, I’m so worked up!” On the back of my mind was the violin lesson that Chris would be dealing with, the rides to tennis I had to coordinate, one child in bed with a fever, are the girls okay with me leaving?  I had plans to take my oldest son on a date to see the local middle school’s play which he had friends in, would I be back in time?  on and on!  Chris was not home yet when we had to leave but would be very shortly.  Needless to say I called home to say that we should forget about the play, I was exhausted and he is the one with a fever ( thank you God!) you know what I mean.  Once at the spa mom and I relaxed and had a great chat with the girls working about my girls and mom’s trip to Africa, and one girl was in nursing school and enjoyed chatting about it with my mom.    They are all interested in the girls and our family.   My mom will be back for a few days in two weeks we take all the kids to the dentist, Lainee to the ear doctor (this is crazy, she is sososososo loud!), the girls to the hospital for two days for blood work and then a transfusion in their new ports!

gigi has a great project going!

In fact, we were so crazy busy that when the social worker arrived for the home visit, to meet the girls etc and to write up a report, I had completely forgotten about it, even though it was in bold letters on our kitchen calendar!  We swiped off some of Gigi’s sewing project to the other end of the table and invited the sweet woman to sit down.

both L and Z are so interested in sewing like gigi. z. glued a little paper quilt together! this is so beautiful gigi!

All went well but it was kind of stressful since it was dinner time and we had big boys at tennis that needed rides home and the boys and dad had invited friends to come down to the “man cave” (our basement), to watch the Bull’s game.  It’s just busy.  The boys’ homeschooled friends are such a blessing to me.  They are fun guys who we love, love to have over.  The girls know their names and are comfortable around them.  The boys all love to speak phrases into the ipad translator and see if the girls can understand it.  This is fun with Zinnia but Lainee cries and runs and hides for some reason.  I guess it is kind of freaky to hear a chinese voice come from a little box.  The girls NEVER refer to themselves by their chinese names anymore.  This has happened in the last week or so.  We were finally unpacking their back packs from China and looked at a few little trinkets that the orphanage had sent them with, like a plastic santa claus.  We giggled but Lainee said several times, “all done Long gang!!  All done Long Guangzhen!!”  My mom wondered what she was saying and I told her, “Mom, that’s her chinese name and the name of the orphanage!”  She said again very loudly, “All done Long Guanzhen, LAINEE GRACE!!!”  Yes, all done.  You have been given a new name.  We tried to keep the girls quiet yesterday, the day after surgery.  We found out they will sit through the show called OLIVIA on our computer.  We are all constantlly amazed at their English.  It’s really amazing.  With ear phones Lainee can have it as loud as she needs!!!!  What will we find out?  God knows and I rest in that!

The Message has a neat translation of Ephesians 1:3-6  “How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him.  Long before he laid down the earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.  Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the had of his beloved Son.

Today we have a packed day as well, parents day in two of the kid’s homeschool writing class and an out for a quick 30 minute lunch between the two classes then out to see Mimi’s little play she’s is in.  Today we are packing and heading up to our beach house which is 20 minutes north of where my mom lives.  So, this afternoon we will load up in the van with  Nana and dog and kids and beach house towels and sheets etc. and spend the weekend getting the house ready for summer and visiting my sister who lives 30 minutes north of our house there.  The girls are very excited and understand about the house.  All day yesterday they said, “beach house someday cookie swim outside!!!!”  They have seen lots of photos of the house and kids swimming in the water and cookie swimming in the water was so funny to them.  The house has a huge woods area in the back that our kids just love.  I feel like that beach house is always clean, we are outside all day everyday!  I’m sure the girls have never seen anything like they will see tonight when we arrive.  They are such brave and fun girls, they just jump right in to whatever we do.  Enjoy your day!  Blessings, Laura
