advent books

Yesterday some friends  asked what our family does for advent~

I decided to share it here on MGE:

We discovered, several years ago, a series of Advent stories by Arnold Ytreeide

This is the first one of several, you can find them on Amazon.  He has Lent stories too that we do at Easter.

They are exciting adventure stories that your whole family will enjoy with daily readings, about 15 minutes long.  Its become a great tradition.

The reading ends with a short little paragraph of reflection.  They have been really great and fun for our family.  This is the first year that we’ve including everyone, because of language issues and distracting wiggle worms…and I’m loving that feeling; all 10 of us nestled down before the youngest 4 head to bed.

Brush aside the notion that maybe your children are “too old”, they aren’t! It’s something they will enjoy and a memory for certain.  The author ends each day’s reading at a cliff hanger, making you excited for the next evening’s reading.  You could still catch up to the schedule by doubling up on the readings if you purchase soon.

I light our wreath, dad reads.

AHhhhhh…. thank you, God, for all the children under one roof, for 15 minutes of closeness all together focusing on you…

I know it won’t be like this much longer,  college days loom just around the bend.

This was taken on the first day of school back in august. This year we have an 11th grader and a 9th grader, one seventh grader, a sixth grader, one fourth grader, two third graders and our baby is in second grade. Chris and I decided that all the Jones children would be in school this year. For the first time in 16 years I don't have children here during the day. the two older boys go to the christian high school and the younger 6 go to our christian grammar school. :) (i'm smiling)

Laura, Thank you for the updates. You are back in the groove girl! I love reading your thoughts about your family. Your positive perspective is so encouraging. You have eyes and ears for Jesus and it’s so compelling. Have a blessed day!
